Attorney Griggs is a 1996 graduate of Woodward Academy. He furthered his studies at Oxford College of Emory University and Emory University, where he received his BA in 2000. After his time at Emory, Attorney Griggs received JD in 2004 from the University of Cincinnati College Of Law, the fourth oldest law school in the country. Attorney Griggs began practicing law in the State of Georgia after passing the Bar Examination in the fall of 2004. Attorney Griggs has handled over a thousand cases over his legal career. Attorney Griggs is a well-respected litigator known for handling high profile cases. Attorney Griggs represented numerous clients involved in the Atlanta Public Schools Cheating Trial, Georgia’s Longest Trial. Further, Attorney Griggs has handled countless high profile cases featured on Media Outlets such as WSBTV, ABC, NBC, FOX, CNN, FOX NEWS, CBS, TV-ONE, and WGCL.

Attorney Gerald A. Griggs is a nationally recognized civil rights attorney, social justice advocate, and transformative leader. He has represented families and survivors in high-profile cases, including the R. Kelly case, and worked closely with activists as a Special Investigator for the NAACP in the Ahmaud Arbery case, helping to spark a national movement for racial justice. Earlier, his work in the Jaheem Herrera case launched the National Anti-Bullying Movement, led to significant changes in Georgia’s Anti-Bullying Law, and was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show. He continues to champion anti-bullying initiatives through the Hot 107.9 “Bullying is Not Hot” Tour and national speaking engagements.
A lifelong advocate for civil rights, Attorney Gerald Griggs proudly served previously as the 13th President of the Georgia NAACP and President of the Atlanta NAACP, in addition to leadership roles including First Vice President of the Atlanta Chapter, Third Vice President of the Georgia State Conference, Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee, and Field Director of District Coordinators. His work spans partnerships with the SCLC, 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Emerging 100, ACLU, The Urban League Young Professionals, and countless grassroots organizations committed to justice and equality.

A Biography
Gerald A. Griggs is an Atlanta attorney and civil rights leader dedicated to Equal Justice for All. He is a tenacious trial lawyer, a zealous advocate, and a compassionate social justice activist who serves the needs of his community one client at a time.
Attorney Griggs previously served as the President of the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP and the President of the Atlanta Branch NAACP, where he led the fight for civil rights, voting rights, and criminal justice reform across the state and nation. Under his leadership, both organizations amplified their grassroots impact, championed justice for marginalized communities, and continued the proud legacy of the Civil Rights Movement in the modern era.
A proud graduate of Woodward Academy (Class of 1996), Attorney Griggs earned his B.A. from Emory Universityafter attending Oxford College of Emory University, and later obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2004. He began practicing law in Georgia that same year and was later honored as one of Emory University’s Top 40 Under 40 Distinguished Alumni.
Over his legal career, Attorney Griggs has handled thousands of cases and earned a reputation as a skilled and fearless litigator. He gained national recognition for his work in the Atlanta Public Schools Cheating Scandal Trial, Georgia’s longest-running trial, and has represented numerous clients in high-profile matters — including survivors and families in the R. Kelly sex trafficking cases. His work has been featured on major media outlets including ABC, NBC, FOX, CNN, CBS, FOX News, and TV One.
Beyond the courtroom, Attorney Griggs is deeply committed to community empowerment and social justice. He has worked alongside organizations such as the SCLC, 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Emerging 100, ACLU, and Urban League Young Professionals, among others. His activism has earned recognition from Congressman John Lewis at the 2016 Congressional Black Caucus Conference, and honors from the Gate City Bar Association, Jack and Jill of Stone Mountain, The Links, NAACP, and numerous civic and social justice groups.
